DAY 6: Friday, May 31 - Ucluelet to Seattle

On our drive back to Victoria we stopped at a few places of interest.  The first stop was at Sprout Lake Provincial Park.  There is a group of petroglyphs along the shore of the lake that depict sea creatures commonly found in Pacific Coast art and mythology.

Next we stopped at Cathedral Grove to walk in the rainforest and look at an 800 year old Douglas Fir tree that is over 200 feet tall.

We also stopped at another park to look at waterfalls.

There was clear weather for the Clipper ride back to Seattle and we had great views of the Olympic Mountains and Mount Rainier.

DAY 5: Thursday, May 30 - Long Beach and Rainforest Walks

We spent today in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.  First stop was Long Beach.  While walking here we saw an eagle. 

Then we went for a rainforest walk.  

In the evening we went for another rainforest walk to see some ancient cedar trees.  We extended the walk along the coastal Wild Pacific Coast trail to Rocky Point.  Near Rocky Point we saw an unusual rainbow.

During the day, we drove across the 49th parallel.  The Oregon Treaty of 1846 between the United States and Great Britain established the 49th parallel as the border between the United States and British North America - with the exception of Vancouver Island.  

DAY 4: Wednesday, May 29 - Pacific Rim National Park

Today we took a walk in the park - the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.  There are many coastal and rainforest paths and we chose to hike to Half Moon Bay and Florencia Bay.  

The trail started in rainforest and then we took stairs down to the coast.

First we went to Half Moon Bay.

Then we walked back up and went down to Florencia Bay.

After the hike we went to Tofino, a town on the other side of the Park.  We also visited a distillery and tasted a few of their products including a cedar infused gin, an expresso vodka and their unique absinthe.  A bottle of the absinthe is coming home with us!
