Ucluelet, which means "people with a safe landing place" in the local First Nations language, is the starting point for the Wild Pacific Trail.  The trail goes along the coast and through rainforest.  We walked a section of the trail in the evening to look at the still active Amphitrite Point Lighthouse. The first lighthouse built at this site in 1906 was destroyed by a tidal wave in January 1914.  It was rebuilt and has been in service since March 1915.
